Taxonomic studies on the subfamily Acridinae (Orthoptera: Acrididae) from Kashmir Valley, Himalayas with new records including a genus from the state

Abstract :

The taxonomic and distributional account of subfamily Acridinae has not been studied in Kashmir Valley except for some publications. The present study aimed to provide an updated checklist of subfamily Acridinae and a key for identification, based primarily on morphological, genitalic, and literature data. Each species is documented with a taxonomic account and geographical distribution. In total, eight species belonging to four genera are listed. Among the four genera, Orthochtha is newly recorded from Jammu & Kashmir state. Among the eight species, Acrida turrita, Truxalis nasuta, Phlaeoba antennata antennata. Orthochtha indica and Orthochtha schmidti are new records from the Kashmir Valley region, while Acrida turrita, Orthochtha indica, and Orthochtha schmidti are new records from the whole Jammu & Kashmir state. The findings of this study will be beneficial in generating future forecasts regarding this group's connections and correct species identifications.
