Laboratory evaluation of novel insecticides against the grub of Epilachna dodecastigma (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae)
Abstract :Among the vegetable pests, epilachna beetle viz., Epilachna dodecastigma (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) is considered as one of the destructive pest of cucurbits in Bangladesh and cause serious damage to crops. Scanty studies were found available against the grub of E. dodecastigma using two novel biopesticides of Ecomec 1.8 EC and Bioneem plus 1.0 EC for their toxic and repellent effects against the 3rd instar grub of epilachna beetle. The experiment was conducted in the laboratory at the Department of Entomology, Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU), Dinajpur during July to October, 2019 following Completely Randomized Design. Two novel biopesticides of Ecomec 1.8 EC and Bioneem plus 1.0 EC were trailed for their toxic and repellent effects against the 3rd instar grub of epilachna beetle. The result revealed that both two treatments had promising effect against the grub. However, Ecomec 1.8 EC showed the highest toxicity of LD50 (0.24 mg/Kg) and repellency (93.33%) among the treatments. Although, role of Bioneem plus 1 EC in comparison with control treatment cannot be ignored. Therefore, being biopesticides are as selective, having less or no hazard on human health and environment, they can be incorporated in IPM program for sustainable management of E. dodecastigma.
