Updated checklist of aphids infesting lamiids (Angiosperms: Eudicots: Asterids) flowering plants in India

Abstract : The lamiids is a subclade of the clade asterids of eudicot flowering plants comprising five orders. The results demonstrated the association of 147 species of aphids belonging to 60 genera with 296 species of plants belonging to 174 genera included in 20 families and 4 orders and Boraginales, Gentianales, Lamiales Solanales. Among the aphids infesting lamiids, Aphis (Aphis) gossypii Glover was found highly polyphagous feeding 43 species of plants followed by Aphis (Aphis) nerii Boyer de Fonscolombe (27 species), Aphis (Aphis) spiraecola Patch (22 species), Aphis (Aphis) asclepiadis Fitch, Aphis (Toxoptera) aurantii Boyer de Fonscolombe, Myzus (Myzus) ornatus Laing (13 species each), Aphis (Aphis) craccivora Koch, Myzus (Nectarosiphon) persicae (Sulzer) (12 species each) and Aphis (Aphis) odinae (van der Goot, 1917) (10 species), and less than 10 species for other aphid species. The plants belonging to Lamiaceae (60 species) are maximally associated with 55 species of aphids followed by Solanaceae (51 species by 60 species of aphids), Apocynaceae (27 species by 33 species of aphids), Rubiaceae (27 species by 33 species of aphids), and Convolvulaceae (15 species by 17 species of aphids), Plantaginaceae (14 species by 17 species of aphids) and other families with less than 10 species of plants.
