Updated checklist of aphids (Homoptera: Aphididae) infesting on plants of the order Lamiales (Angiospermae) in India
Abstract :Fourteen families belonging to the order Lamiales, an asterid group of dicotyledonous flowering plants (Angiosperms) are infested by 94 species of aphids (Homoptera: Aphididae) belonging to 7 subfamilies in India. Among them, the family Lamiaceae are more vulnerable to aphid attack (58 species of plants infested by 54 species of aphids) followed by Acanthaceae (17 species of plants infested by 22 species of aphids). Among the aphid species, 8 species are highly polyphagous feeding on 6-60 plant species belonging to 5-10 families. Highly polyphagous species are Aphis (Aphis) gossypii (60 plant species belonging to 40 genera and 10 families) followed by Myzus (Myzus) ornatus (28 plant species belonging to 25 genera and 7 families), Myzus (Nectarosiphon) persicae (21 plant species belonging to 21 genera and 10 families), Aphis (Aphis) nasturtii (16 plant species belonging to 15 genera and 5 families), Brachycaudus (Brachycaudus) helichrysi (15 plant species belonging to 11 genera and 6 families), and Aphis (Aphis) spiraecola (14 plant species belonging to 23 genera and 5 families).
