Taxonomic account of shield bugs (Scutelleridae: Pentatomoidea: Heteroptera) of Gorumara National Park and Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary, West Bengal, India

Abstract :

Systematics of shield bugs’ (family - Scutelleridae) fauna is dealt herewith for the first time ever from Gorumara National Park and Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary, West Bengal, India. A total of 6 species under 5 genera distributed in 2 subfamilies namely Scutellerinae and Hoteinae has been recorded during study. Of these, the hoteine species namely Hotea curculionoides (Herrich-Schäffer) is recognized as new to the State, West Bengal. Each of the recorded taxa is diagnosed, described and documented with digital images of their dorsal habitus and drawings of their different body parts. Furthermore, taxonomic keys are also provided.
