Study on Avian diversity in the forests of District Ramban, Jammu and Kashmir, India
Abstract : The study was carried out at four different sites (Gool, Ramban, Batote and Banihal) of district Ramban, which is one of the 20 districts in the Union Territory of J&K, India. It is located along the Pir Panjal mountain range of north-western Himalayas. The data was collected from March 2019 to December 2021, by using point count method to document avian diversity of the area. We recorded 145 species of birds spread over to 40 families belonging to 10 orders. Muscicapidae was the dominant family with 17 bird species followed by Accipitridae (14 species), Fringillidae (9 species) and others. Variation in diversity among different sites was attributed to the availability of food and nesting sites.
