Preliminary list of nematodes from order Aphelenchida Siddiqi, 1980 and description of six species of the genus Aphelenchus Bastian, 1865 (Aphelenchida) and Aphelenchoides Fisher, 1984 (Nematoda: Aphelenchoididae) from Thrace region of Turkey

Abstract :

A study covering vineyards and orchards in Edirne, Kırklareli and Tekirdağ provinces of Thrace Region was carried out in order to determine plant parasitic nematode species. Five species belonging to genus Aphelenchoides and one species from genus Aphelenchus were identified after morphologic observations and morphometric measurements. The species in survey areas were named as Aphelenchus avenae Bastian, 1865, Aphelenchoides confusus Thorne & Malek, 1968, Aphelenchoides clarus Thorne & Malek, 1968, Aphelenchoides sacchari Hooper, 1958, Aphelenchoides bicaudatus (Imamura, 1931) Filipjev & Schuurmans Stekhoven, 1941, Aphelenchoides obtusus Thorne & Malek, 1968. A. avenae was common occuring almost 90% of vineyards and rare distribution with 36,8% percentage was found in cherry orchards. These nematodes were previously isolated from soils around different crop plants in Turkey but some of them constitute new record on vineyards and orchards. Frequency of occurance, distibution maps, descriptions, morphometric measurements including comparisons with previous published records and microscopic images were also provided. As far as we know this is the first research on this topic in orchards and vineyards in Nortwestern Marmara Region in Turkey.
