New records of notonectid bugs (Hemiptera: Heteroptera) from the rice fields of Palakkad district, Kerala, India
Abstract : The present study reported the new records of two predatory species of notonectid bugs viz., Anisops sardeus sardeus Herrich-Shaffer, 1850 and Nychia sappho Kirkaldy, 1901 from the rice fields of Palakkad District, Kerala State, India. These two bugs are natural predators and they have a potential to control the insect pests of rice cultivation. Among the two species, N. sappho Kirkaldy, 1901 is found more in the rice fields of this region and the genus Nychia is reported for the first time from Kerala, India.
