New record of two species of genus Sigara (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Corixidae) from Kerala, India

Abstract : Corixid bugs are popularly known as water boatmen. They are commonly found in stagnant waters like ponds with good vegetation. They are randomly collected from different freshwater habitats of Kerala, India by using a D-frame aquatic net. Two species of water boatmen Sigara (Vermicorixa) kempi Hutchinson, 1940 and S. (Tropocorixa) promontoria Distant, 1910 are reported for the first time from Kerala. S. kempi Hutchinson, 1940 is recorded for the first time in South India. These two species are very rarely distributed in Kerala. Worldwide, these two species are reported only from India. These two species need to be conservation in future.
