New record of Chrysomya spp. (Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830) (Diptera: Calliphoridae) from the Trans-Himalayan region, cold arid desert of Kargil Ladakh, India
Abstract : Chrysomya spp., commonly known as the Old World screwworm fly or simply the screwworm, exhibits a cosmopolitan distribution and has been extensively documented in various regions worldwide. These flies hold significant importance in the fields of medicine, forensics, and veterinary sciences. In the present study, two species of the genus Chrysomya were identified for the first time in the cold arid desert, Trans-Himalayan region of Kargil Ladakh. These species include Chrysomya bezziana and Chrysomya megacephala. It was observed that Chrysomya bezziana is fairly widespread throughout the study area, indicating its broader presence. However, Chrysomya megacephala was exclusively recorded in the Kargil city of the study area, suggesting a more localized distribution for this species.
