New cases of teratology in Lucanidae and Geotrupidae (Coleoptera: Scarabaeoidea) from the Palearctic Region

Abstract :

New teratological cases in Lucanus (s. str.) cervus cervus (Linnaeus, 1758) and Lethrus (Furcilethrus) banghaasi Reitter, 1893 (Coleoptera, Scarabaeoidea) from the Palearctic Region are described and illustrated. Anomalies affect head structures: the right maxillary palpus (unilateral heterodynamic ternary schistomely) in L. cervus and the left ventral mandibular process (unilateral structural deformation) in L. banghaasi. Short review of some known teratological cases in families Lucanidae Latreille, 1804 and Geotrupidae Latreille, 1802 is provided
