Investigation of the Bioecological Characteristics of the Harmful Almond Seed Wasp Eurytoma amygdali Enderlein (Hymenoptera: Eurytomidae) in Almond Orchards
Abstract : This study was carried out between 2016-2017 to obtain information on the bioecology of the almond seed, Eurytoma amygdali, which causes severe yield losses in almond orchards, and to reveal the male-female ratio and life period in nature. Adults and pre-adult stages of the pest were obtained from almond orchards belonging to the Pistachio Research Institute in the Şahinbey district of Gaziantep province. Morphological measurements of larvae, pupae, and adults (female-male), which are the biological stages of E. amygdali, were made, and the male-female sex ratio and life period in nature were calculated. The study determined that the adult females of the pest were longer than the males, the average length of the mature larva was 7.15 mm, and the pupal length was 7.59 mm. It has been determined that the number of female individuals is higher than that of male individuals according to their presence in nature, and female individuals live longer than males.
