Herpetofauna of Gujarat, India: A review

Abstract :

An annotated checklist of Herpetofauna occurring in Gujarat is compiled in the present report based on available published literature. The taxonomy of the recorded species was revised based on the most recent Herpetofauna information. A total of 134 Herpetofauna is recorded in the present study. The Checklist includes 22 Amphibia species from seven families and 112 Reptilia species from 23 families. South Gujarat has the most diverse Amphibia (21 species), whereas the Reptilia are more diverse in Saurashtra (80 species). The report focuses on the habitat preferences of species with current distribution in Gujarat.
