Food plant preferences of Trichoferus fasciculatus fasciculatus (Faldermann) (Cerambycidae: Cerambycinae: Hesperophanini) with a new and interesting host

Abstract :

The paper presents all known host plants of Trichoferus fasciculatus fasciculatus (Faldermann, 1837) with a new and interesting host plant. The research was carried out in Kahramanmaraş province, Turkey in the years of 2021-2022. As a result, the Virginia creeper, Parthenocissus quinquefolia (Linnaeus) Planchon, 1887, of the plant family Vitaceae is recorded for the first time as new host plant species and family for T. fasciculatus fasciculatus (Faldermann) with the present study. In addition, it is determined that T. fasciculatus fasciculatus (Faldermann) is a polyphagous longicorn beetle. It is strongly preferred deciduous trees and shrubs as host plants by the longicorn beetle, and also it has been reported that it feeds in coniferous trees too. Among deciduous trees, the members of Fabaceae with seven species is found the most preferred plant family as host, followed by Rosaceae with five species and Anacardiaceae, Fagaceae, Moraceae and Rhamnaceae each with two species. Similarly, among coniferous trees, Pinaceae with four species is found the most preferred plant family, followed by Cupressaceae and Taxaceae each with only one species. On the other side, the known data on the distribution of the longicorn beetle in Turkey has been improved with a new record.
