First record of Mesocriconema xenoplax (Nematoda: Criconematidae) in Jammu and Kashmir: Insights into nematode distribution and potential agricultural implications.

Abstract : This article presents the first record of Mesocriconema xenoplax in Jammu and Kashmir, shedding light on its distribution in this specific geographic area and exploring potential implications for local agriculture. The finding of M. xenoplax in Jammu and Kashmir raises questions about the nematode's adaptability to diverse environmental conditions and its potential influence on the region's agricultural productivity. Understanding the distribution patterns of this nematode in a new geographic context is crucial for implementing effective management strategies to mitigate any adverse effects it may have on crops. In this report, we provide detailed insights into the identification and characterization of M. xenoplax in Jammu and Kashmir. Additionally, we discuss the possible implications of its presence on the local agriculture, considering the nematode's known associations with crop damage. This study aims to contribute valuable information to the broader understanding of nematode ecology and distribution while emphasizing the need for further research to develop sustainable management practices tailored to the unique challenges posed by M. xenoplax in the Jammu and Kashmir region.
