First checklist of bumblebees (Hymenoptera: Apidae) fauna of Kargil district of Union Territory of Ladakh, India

Abstract : The trans-Himalayan region boasts abundant biodiversity, and the Himalayan mountains offer favorable habitats for bumblebees. These essential insect pollinators play a critical role in pollinating various plant species found in high altitude and cold climate regions. They are particularly significant in diverse environments such as agriculture fields, mountainous regions, meadows, and orchards, facilitating essential pollination processes. This paper focuses on showcasing the distribution of bumblebee species in the Kargil district of Ladakh Union Territory, emphasizing their importance in this unique and ecologically diverse location. Kargil district is rich in both floral and faunal biodiversity however there is need to explore and know the abundance and distribution of particular species in this district.
