Contributions and new locality records to the Chrysomelidae (Insecta: Coleoptera) fauna of Muğla province, Turkey

Abstract :

This paper provides data about the Chrysomelidae (Insecta: Coleoptera) fauna of farming terraces in Aspat (Strobilos) ancient city and its territorium, Bodrum, Muğla, western Turkey. Species were collected using different methods namely, handpicking on vegetation, handpicking on the ground, by sieve, bait trap, knock down and sweep net sampling. Sampling took place at two weeks’ intervals during the years of 2008 and 2009. As a result of this study, twelve species belonging to four subfamilies of Chrysomelidae were specified. These are Crioceris asparagi Linnaeus, 1758, Clytra atraphaxidis (Pallas, 1773), C. novempunctata (Olivier, 1808), Labidostomis rufa (Waltl, 1838), L. sulcicollis (Lacordaire, 1848), Smaragdina limbata (Steven, 1806), Chrysolina americana (Linnaeus, 1758), C. coerulans (Scriba, 1791), C. hyperici Forster, 1771, C. sahlbergi (Ménétriés, 1832), Gastrophysa polygoni (Linnaeus, 1758) and Psylliodes chrysocephala (Linnaeus, 1758). Sweeping net is the effective method (85.19%) in sampling and the other methods followed it. Among them Psylliodes chrysocephala was the most abundant species. Totally eight species were recorded for the first time from Muğla province of Turkey.
