Comparative analysis of vermicompost on soil fertility and assessment of pesticide on earthworm mortality

Abstract : The purpose of this study was to see how Lumbricus terrestris species of earthworms affect soil fertility in terms of soil porosity, Moisture, WHC, and nutritive component like organic carbon, Phosphorous and Ca. In the experiment, add earthworms in normal soil and add biodegradable material layer-by- layered for 60 days. Every 30th day soil properties were analyzed. At the end, an increase in soil properties like Organic carbon, Porosity and earthworm released cast like material called vermicast or vermicompost was observed. After analysis, the vermicompost effect on fenugreek plant growth was compared observed by comparing with chemical fertilizer & control soil. In this experiment vermicompost give significant effect on plant growth; like shoot, root length, flowering, leaves etc. After that, we analyzed the effect of pesticide on earthworm mortality, in which we prepared different concentration of pesticide and sprayed on earthworm and then analyzed the effect of pesticide on earthworm surviving rate and no, of survivors. The results obtained in this study suggest that the earthworm was most important soil organism and vermicompost was nutritive rich organic fertilizer.
