Biodiversity and ecological studies of arthropods associated to Quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa Willd.) in Biskra region

Abstract :

With the new introduction of Quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa Willd.)  in Algeria (Biskra) and to study arthropods associated with, a survey was carried out at the El Outaya site in Biskra region. In order to test Quinoa adaptation in new environmental conditions, as part of the cooperation project between the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) and the Technical Institute for Saharan Agriculture Development (ITDAS), by using two methods of capture; Yellow traps and pitfall traps, identification and ecological studies of the collected species was done. In total, 2 703 specimens were collected, distributed in 35 genera and 41 species. Ecological indices applied to different species indicate that Hemiptera (56.68) and Diptera (35.55 %) were the most abundant orders followed by far by Hymenoptera order (6.50), The Shannon index diversity values differed between orders and were classified into four groups. The highest insect diversity and evenness was observed in Homoptera order (H’= 5.1; E=0.96), while for Lepidoptera, Orthoptera, Thyzanoptera, Araneae, Oniscidae order was the lowest (H’=0.00).
