An updated checklist of family Theraphosidae Thorell, 1869 (Arachnida: Araneae) from India
Abstract :An annotated checklist of the Theraphosidae Thorell, 1869 occurring in India is compiled from published literature. The present study reports a total of 61 species placed among 12 genera from India. Out of these 61 species are reported from the Indian mainland whereas two species were reported from Andaman-Nicobar Islands. The most species were reported from Kerala (19 species), Tamil Nadu (15 species), Maharashtra (14 species) and Karnataka (12 species) respectively. Many species from this family are endemic to India. This paper indicates the diversity of Theraphosids are abundant in South India. The report highlights the habitat preference of species with current geographic distribution in India.
