An attempt on subgeneric arrangement of the genus Clytus Laicharting, 1784 (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae: Cerambycinae)
Abstract :The paper presents an arrangement on subgeneric composition of the genus Clytus Laicharting with new subgenera worldwide. As a result of this, a total of 22 subgenera (including the nominotypical subgenus and Sphegoclytus Sama) are determined and described. Clytus is a genus distributed worldwide in Palaearctic, Nearctic, Oriental and ?Australian regions, and it is currently represented with a total of 66 species or 71 species-group taxa (63 species and 8 subspecies) worldwide with 3 species nomina dubia, while with a total of 43 species or 48 species-group taxa (40 species and 8 subspecies) only in the Palaearctic region. Consequently, approximately 92% or 65 of the total 71 species-group taxa, or approximately 96% or 65 of the total 68 species-group taxa except 3 species nomina dubia worldwide of the genus is evaluated with the present study. Accordingly, the 65 species-group taxa of Clytus, 58 (and 7 possible species) are studied, and they are placed into a total of 22 subgenera including 20 newly described subgenera. A key for subgenera of Clytus is given at the end of present text. Known species-group taxa and their subgenera in the geographic regions are also presented into the lists at the end of present text.
