Amphibian species included in the 3rd edition of the Red Book of Azerbaijan and their conservation status

Abstract : Currently, 6 out of the 12 amphibian species found in the fauna of Azerbaijan are listed in the Red Book. Among these, 1 species (8.33%) is classified as critically endangered (CR), 4 species (33.33%) as vulnerable (VU), and 1 species (8.33%) as data-deficient (DD). The remaining 6 species (50%) are not included in the Red Book as they are not considered endangered. The Caucasian Newt (Lissotriton lantzi Wolterstorff, 1914) is critically endangered. The Crested Newt (Triturus karelinii Strauch, 1870), Eastern Spadefoot (Pelobates syriacus Boettger, 1889), Caucasian Toad (Bufo verrucosissimus Pallas, 1814), and Talysh Toad (Bufo eichwaldi Litvinchuk et al., 2008) are categorized as vulnerable species. The Caucasian Parsley Frog (Pelodytes caucasicus Boulenger, 1896) is a data-deficient species, as little information is available about it.
