A preliminary study on the ecology of the red fox (Vulpes vulpes) distributed in Kırıkkale province
Abstract : This study is based on field studies conducted on the Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes) in Kırıkkale province and its vicinity between July 2009-2011. During this study, some nests that were observed and the activities of adults and cubs around them and the characteristics of the habitat area were recorded. The Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes), which has a wide distribution area in Türkiye, is distributed in the world from North Africa to Siberia and India, and to Europe and North America in the North. They live almost everywhere in the world. They are from the Canidae family and are carnivorous mammals. They have large ears and long tails. Their nose is pointed. Their sense of smell and hearing are very strong. They dig and catch rodents underground and eat them. While their main food source is rodents, they also eat birds, small mammals, reptiles, carrion and fruit. They live in 15-20 meter long dens with several entrances. They hunt at night. They seem to have no enemies other than humans. They usually wander alone.
