A new species of Barbatula from the Selenga river basin, Mongolia and a revised key to the species from Siberia and Mongolia (Teleostei: Cypriniformes: Nemacheilidae)
Abstract : Barbatula selengensis sp. nov. was formerly considered as a part of B. tomiana but can be readily separated from the latter by the scaled body, longer predorsal distance, lower modal vertebral count and the caudal fin with straight or only slightly emarginated distal margin. The distribution of B. tomiana is restricted to the upper Ob and Enissei basins. A revised key for identification of the species of Barbatula inhabiting Southern Siberia and Mongolia (from the Ob to Selenga drainages and the endorheic basins) is provided.
