A new pistachio pest in Turkey: Opatroides punctulatus subcylindricus (Menetries, 1849) (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae)

Abstract :

A new pest called Opatroides punctulatus subcylindricus (Menetries, 1849) (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) has been distinguished on pistachio in Teketası village in Karkamıs district of Gaziantep province in Turkey during the study conducted in years 2020 and 2021. This study identifies the morphological definition, range, hosts, and damages of subspecies O. punctulatus subcylindricus. It has been observed that O. punctulatus subcylindricus feed on the leaves on the pistachio saplings, and it leads to harm of graft-take as a result of feeding on the grafted eye as the primary damage. It has been observed that this pest caused damage at a rate of 68,30% on the pistachio orchards during the study conducted in 2020. During the survey conducted in 2021, no damage was detected thanks to the pest management with Opatroides punctulatus subcylindricus.
