A new pest of vineyards for Diyarbakır in southeastern Anatolian region of Turkey: Reticulitermes clypeatus Lash, 1952 (Isoptera: Rhinotermitidae)
Abstract :Termites are one of the most common insect pests of grapevines. This present study aimed to identify the termite species found on vineyards in Diyarbakır and to contribute to the knowledge of termites in Turkey by presenting molecular data. Termite samples were collected from grapevine plants infested by termites in the province of Diyarbakır [Dicle (2 samples), Eğil (2 samples), Hani (5 samples), Hazro (2 samples), Kocaköy (3 samples), Silvan (2 samples) districts], in the Southeastern Part of Turkey, between March and June 2017. Each sample was put into a plastic bag and taken to the laboratory for examination. Samples for genetic analyses were preserved in 100% ethanol. Laboratory studies were carried out in Bologna (Italy). Partial sequences of the cytochrome oxidase subunit II (COII) and 16S large subunit RNA mitochondrial DNA genes were obtained and analyzed. The termite species responsible for the infestation was identified as Reticulitermes clypeatus Lash, 1952 (Isoptera: Rhinotermitidae). Reticulitermes clypeatus is a new pest record in vineyards for Turkey.
